CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT: AN OVERVIEW (Details of last game update HERE)
FML operates on a 'constant development model'.
This means that the development of the game occurs at a much faster pace than many regular games. In FML, new features do not arrive annually, but instead every few months. These updates are included as part of your subscription - you recieve them at no extra charge.
The benefits of this system are as follows:
- FML is intended to be a 'living' entity, constantly developing and changing. This is true of our teams, and our user base, and it is in keeping that it should be the case with the game itself. Thus in FML, you are never more than a few months away from a complete set of new features covering a wide range of areas.
- New features mean new challenges. If you've done well in the past, new updates will give you new areas to master. If your team has gone through a bad patch, new features will give you a new chance to succeed.
- There are, finally, many features that are intended to grow regularly over time, and are thus especially suited to regular updates. For instance, the intention is for there to always be many more skills than even the most devoted user can learn, and thus you'll often find new updates bringing new areas.
THE CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
All new features in FML are heavily tested and vetted before being included in the game. newly coded features are not only tested internally, but subsequently placed in 'Beta' testing too, normally for a period of several months. This ensures that all new features are thoroughly exercised before being released into a 'Live' environment. That applies not only in the case of bug-catching, but, equally importantly, in terms of making sure that features/updates work in practice as well as theory.
Of course, the first process is internal discussions by those working on the game themselves. However, decisions surrounding the direction of the game are fed heavily by forum feedback. For instance, 1.1's Stadium Feature was suggested repeatedly by forum users. Many features are also discussed with the most experienced members of the community before being coded. You can have your say via the Future Development forum http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=169.
All in all, we hope you'll see over time that a regular flow of updates will serve to keep FML lively, challenging and exciting.
